Research fields: Astrophysical sources of the high-energy radiation and their optical counterparts. Galactic X-ray sources: study of cataclysmic variables, X-ray binaries and supersoft X-ray sources, novae, analysis of their long-term activity and eruptive processes in the X-ray and optical regions; accretion processes; relations of the character of the orbital modulation to the current status of the long-term activity; investigation of the dependence of the observed characteristics of X-ray sources on their physical state and parameters. Extragalactic sources: investigation of the afterglows of the gamma-ray bursts (GRB), study of their comprehensive properties, supernova - GRB connection, implications for the environment in the host galaxies of GRBs. CCD photometry, data analysis and evaluation. Participation in the international campaigns on the high-energy astrophysical sources and their optical counterparts. Participation in the international project ESA INTEGRAL. 1992 graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Palacký University, Olomouc. Since 1992 at the Astronomical Institute. 1998 PhD in Astronomy at Charles University. Member of the Czech Astronomical Society and the International Astronomical Union. Popularization of astronomy. 2001 Hlávka Award for Young Scientists of the Hlávka Foundation. 2003 Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic for Young Researchers.
